Unfortunately I do not appear on the annual Rich List, if I did, I would probably purchase my own cinema. Until I get my cinema, I make do at home, and there're few principles which I think are crucial for getting the best possible experience when it comes to watching films at home.

My first starting point is the quality of the machine. I believe in saving my pennies and then going out and purchasing the finest quality I can afford. Yes, it does mean waiting for products to sometimes come down a little in price to be within my spending budget, but there are also up sides.

My upside is product analysis. I completely adore going round the outlets and checking out everything which is available in the market. I am a big believer in the reality that you must see a product working, but some outlets offer a much better experience than others. The shops selling the very high-end of the range, will almost always have a room to experience the recommended combinations to give you the best experience. Do remember that these people really would like to sell to you, and if they think you're not keen on buying then they may not give you much time and help; these people are full of useful details. Before going to these shops I always make sure that I have information of my room (often with a plan of it), and a list of the other accessories I am interested in. It is essential that you've an idea of the speakers and other stuff or you'll not be taken seriously. The assistants in these shops will be able to tell you the best compatibility of the different aspects which will make up your home movie experience.

After short listing all my favorite brands and combinations I will visit loads of other places to check if the techies there have any additional advice or ideas.

The next thing which I think is extremely important is how and where you are going to sit. This is more essential than you believe. The one disadvantage with flat screens is that there is an optimum angle to look at them. Hence if you are setting up yours to the wall you will loose some of the definition as well as colors if you are sitting too low. You can see the extent of this in the shops if you try to look at the screen standing up and then again sitting down; it is a lot more obvious on scene shot in the dark (probably why they don't often have these playing in stores).

So before you spend any cash you need to choose you equipment, design your room around it and then you start reading the television reviews, the audio equipment reviews and of course the guarantees!
